Step by Step
A
line dance is choreographed and consists of a number of steps put
together to form a sequence for the dance.
Some
of the steps are:-
· Cross
– Step one foot in front of the other with your legs crossed at
about knee level.
· Rock
– Step to front or side with one foot putting your weight on to it
without completely taking the weight off the other foot.
· Scuff
– Step forward, scuffing the floor with your foot as you move it
forward.
· Stomp
– Stamp your foot fairly hard on the floor.
· Grapevine
(Vine) – This is a sideways movement to the right or left. For a
grapevine to the right step to the right, left foot behind right and
step to right again.
· Weave
– This is a sideways movement to either the right or left similar to
the grapevine with a cross in front as well as a cross behind that
creates a slight zig zag pattern.
· Pivot
Turn – A left pivot turn is stepping forward on your right foot
and swivel on the ball of both feet to the left for either a quarter
or half turn.
· Chasse
– Move one foot to the side, place the other foot next to it and
then move the first foot to the side again.
· Triple
Step – This can be forward, backward or to the right or left
side and consists of three steps to two beats of music.
· Lock
Step – This is a triple step forwards or backwards with the
second step locked behind or in front of the first foot and then the
first foot is moved in the same direction as the first step.
These are just a few of the basic steps and there are also rumba
box, twinkle, bota fogo, coaster step and others that you will learn
as you progress. |
